The project

Arlequines is a multimedia collaboration created by Charlo & Daniel featuring 10 digital portraits, each accompanied by a short musical piece.

Through a new audiovisual form for both artists, the project weaves together the story of their friendship since the age of ten, with each title inscribing a memory of a shared experience. Arlequines honours the mysteries of friendship and those enduring relationships that serve as anchors, reminding us where we come from and pointing toward our ultimate destination.

Charlo — Image

Each arlequín begins with a physical form: folded paper that is scanned and intuitively responded to through Charlo’s line work. Moving between the physical and digital worlds, the figures emerge somewhere between both.

Daniel — Music

Experimenting with a combination of sampling techniques, reverse vocal tracks, digital synthesizers, and programmed beats, the music endows each “arlequín” with a distinct voice, one that evokes the specific memory it represents.

«La amistad es un quieto, apacible, tibio y dulce fuego que el tiempo no abate ni amengua».

— Salvador Novo, Joyas de la Amistad
